During BC 214 to 212, when the Roman soldiers attacked his town Syracuse, it is said that he burnt their ships focusing sunrays on them using a large concave mirror.

Poverty is wrongly considered an evil. The poor led a happier life than rich. The children of rich men are not so fortunate as those of poor men. The home of Poverty , free from care and social envy , is characterization by love and unity among its members. Most of the great men on earth are those who have sprung from the ranks of the poor. To abolish poverty would be to destroy the soil upon which mankind produces the virtues conductive to higher civilization.
