DOT Matrix Printer

These printers are probably the most popular and widely used low speed of printer in use today. They are relatively inexpensive and have a speed from 30cps [Character per second] to 300cps and can produce a variety of character sets [ie sets of symbol which the device can print]

The print head consist of 9*7 array of pins. Depending on the character to be printed the pins move forward and hit the carbon ribbon in front of the paper there by printing the character. Many dot matrix printers are bidirectional, that is, they print from left to right as well as from right to left on return.
